These are your stories, illustrated with love by me :)
Alright- picture this (I’m literally going to show you pictures, so you won’t need a vivid imagination to get through this blog post!):
You’re just casually checking out the Brooklyn Bridge before going to dinner. Something you’ve done several times before- there’s nothing special about this. You look up the East River, towards Queens (hiiii Kara!), then when you turn back around to check out the sun setting down behind the Manhattan Bridge- there’s your boyfriend, on one knee, asking if he can be your husband. You’re so wrapped up in the moment that you don’t even realize- the total stranger sitting on the bench behind you has leapt up and is…. taking photos of you?
See, I told you- you didn’t need that vivid of an imagination to play this game. How cute are these two!? JR reached out to me about photographing him proposing to longtime girlfriend Lina a few months before it happened. We were texting so much on the day of the proposal- figuring out last minute details (where to stand, where I’d be, which direction to face, etc.) that I was actually worried Lina would pick up JR’s phone and be like, “who the hell is Kara and why have you sent her 30 messages today!?” Thankfully- he thought ahead and saved my number in his phone as a totally unrelated person. The whole thing went off without a hitch.
When things had calmed down, we stepped away to take some engagement photos before JR surprised Lina with a dinner filled with friends and family who all came to celebrate the milestone!
Are you as obsessed as I am with people hiring a photographer to hide (usually in plain sight) for their marriage proposals? I mean I feel like I cry every time I get to photograph a proposal! Check out this other secret proposal I shot, right in the middle of Central Park! To book your own session (secret or otherwise!), reach out to me via my contact page.
