These are your stories, illustrated with love by me :)
Syd and Dani are first of all thoughtful, shortly followed by intentional, effervescent, and a whole slew of other sweetie pie adjectives. In fact, it was those very attributes that had us feeling connected before we even sat down to chat with each other about their wedding day for the first time. I had posted a very real selfie on IG about how I show up to rainy weekendlong weddings in the Catskills, not even knowing that it was the exact vibe Syd + Dani were cultivating for their own weekendlong wedding in the Catskills. They reached out, and the rest is history.
The same thoughtfulness, intentionality, and effervescence that they’re pouring into their wedding, they also have a way of pouring into all facets of their lives, including their engagement session. Because it’s important to me that your engagement photos really truly look and feel like you, and because Dani + Syd are so considerate, it was a natural choice to take photos at a cafe that has dotted their relationship in small but impactful ways, doing all of the things that they love doing together most: catching up over coffee, playing cards while listening to Taylor Swift, reading books on the couch, and of course last but certainly not least, a healthy dose of making out. It is what their lives really actually look like at this phase in their lives (told through the lens of a hopeless romantic, naturally). These photos feel just as warm and joyful as Syd + Dani themselves :’)
Warm Love in a Nostalgic Setting
We began our day at the Front Street Cafe in Philly, a favorite spot for Dani and Syd. The choice was obvious for their engagement session because it’s a place they frequent and love. The top floor of the cafe was completely empty when we walked in on a gloomy, rainy day, creating an intimate and cozy atmosphere. Dani and Syd took over the space to drink coffee and play cards, a natural reflection of their personalities and relationship.
The cafe, lined with bookshelves and oddities from its history, provided a unique and nostalgic setting. We spent time lightheartedly exploring, learning about the cafe’s quirks, and enjoying moments with this sweet couple. Their warm energy was evident every moment we were together.
We spent a hefty chunk of the session talking about plans for their upcoming Catskills wedding this September. They told me all about the personalities of their guests + the vibe they’re hoping to create for the weekend. Summer camp energy, but in the way that you spend a lot of time in a confined area with people you are totally obsessed with. Dani and Syd are deeply integrated into their community, thoughtfully celebrating with those who mean the most to them. This session was not just about capturing beautiful photos but also about honoring, reminiscing, and telling stories about their love and the supportive community surrounding them.
A Day filled with Rain, Love, and Taylor Swift
A rainy day absolutely does not take away from your photos—it makes them special and beautiful. The rain added a layer of coziness and intimacy to Dani and Syd’s session, enhancing the nostalgic vibes we aimed to capture. The soft light from the overcast sky and the comforting sounds of rain outside made the cafe feel even more like a warm, welcoming haven.
We listened to Taylor Swift the entire day, which was so on-brand because come on?! You already know I love Taylor Swift. The music added to the joyful and relaxed atmosphere, making the session feel like a perfect reflection of Dani and Syd’s love story.
