You know when you meet somebody and you’re immediately like, “wow. I like this person.” That’s how it was when I met Matty and Chad at a friend’s birthday party. Maybe my favorite part of the story is that I was wearing a very large pink box around my waist, dressed like a Kleenex box for a party themed “paper.” I never pass up the opportunity to put on a costume. And these guys never pass up an opportunity to tell a ridiculous story… like the time they got engaged?*cue dream sequence music*

Matt had the perfect plan to propose to Chad. They had spent months saving up for and planning their perfect European vacation- the first time they had ever traveled internationally with each other. They were staying in a gorgeous hotel in London, and on the day that he planned to propose, Matt was going to upgrade their room and have the hotel staff leave champagne and roses in their new suite. This way, Matt and Chad could leave for the day from one room (nothing suspicious here), but come back to a new, nicer suite after a day of exploring. The suite would be decorated with photos of Matt and Chad from important moments throughout their relationship that lead them to this pivotal point- this moment of getting ready to spend forever together. The whole plan was so perfect and so well thought out and so ready to go, and then….

They got in a fight. Like…. on the day that Matt was going to propose. In another country. While staying in the same hotel room together. For the next two weeks.

Most people would just be like okay today is obviously not the right time, I’ll just propose tomorrow. Or next week. Or when we get back to the states and we’ve had some time apart. But the problem with this is that Matt had already set his plan in motion. He’d already paid for a room upgrade. The hotel staff had already decorated their new suite with champagne, roses, and photographs. There was no turning back, because how can you play it cool when your hotel suite is covered in photos of yourself and bae?

So after a long day of exploring London and having a big ol’ fight, Matt and Chad head back to their hotel. Chad is not suspicious at all, because of course he’s busy being mad at Matt. Matt is anxious because what if the hotel staff tries to congratulate them and blows the whole thing? They get back to the hotel and jump into the elevator, avoiding all hotel staff. They walk into their new suite, and Chad is still oblivious. I asked him, “uhh sorry- you didn’t notice all the roses? Or the fact that you were staying in a completely different room than before?” And he told me that he was so upset over their fight that he wasn’t even paying attention! I was laughing so hard at this story, because who can relate!? You try to do something nice (lol like ask your partner to spend their life with you) and nothing seems to go right!

So anyway, Chad walks into the hotel room- fuming- and Matt says, “he immediately took off his pants because he like? Can’t ever wear pants inside?” Which has nothing to do with this story, except that saaaaaaaaame. Can relate. So pantsless Chad doesn’t even notice the roses or anything, and can’t be bothered with turning around to scope out the new suite. Matt is standing by the bed, like “hey honey come here.” Which HONESTLY WOW- I would never be the bigger person, trying to put an argument behind me for the sake of my proposal plans. This is how you know it’s true love. Chad finally caves and turns around to see- MATT IS ON ONE KNEE! Okay we’re all sobbing now, right?! Either from how sweet or how ridiculous- it doesn’t matter, just SOB!

Matt gave Chad a bracelet instead of a ring, and then a week later while in Paris, Chad got a matching one for Matt. Check the photos below to see them!
