These are your stories, illustrated with love by me :)
I love New York City.
I love every iconic thousand-foot-tall building that kisses the skyline and every famous diner that’s been featured in a classic rom com. I love that when people come to visit me, we can see a Broadway show or watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. New York is such an infamous city, but what I love most about it is the way that it’s home to me. When I’m looking to add a little leisure to my bike commute home, it’s rare that I tack on a ride through Times Square. Because New York City is not always the Big Apple to me; more often it’s a quiet stroll through my favorite neighborhood park, away from the tourists and lines.
By those standards, Natasha and Bryan’s engagement session at Carl Schurz Park was the epitome of a New York City romance. The crisp fall air, golden light filtering through the trees, and the iconic yet unassuming backdrop of the Upper East Side created the perfect setting. And while you might not be able to look at these photos and immediately know exactly where they look place, they still feel like a scene straight out of a classic NYC rom-com; like a magical second or third date you never want to end. From strolling along the riverside to laughing in the golden hour glow, these two brought their love and lighthearted energy, making it a session that felt more like a love story unfolding than a photoshoot.
Given that New York City is such a big, magical place, there are a million ways to photograph it and a million ways to feel about it! But I didn’t want to photograph it the way anyone else feels it; I wanted to show the way Natasha and Bryan feel it. The way the city lights up for the two of them on their walks home together. The way Natasha is always doing something slightly precarious and Bryan is watching with bated breath. Even the park itself— we chose it because N+B are not Central Park strollers; they tend to be more private. Natasha and Bryan are present in the photos; their energy is bursting through these photos. The images reflect who they truly are— natural, playful, and unposed.
